Ground Rent Properties in United Kingdom

    In the UK, ground rent refers to rent paid by the leaseholder of a property to the freeholder, in return for use of the land on which the property is sited. Owners of a flat in a block, for example, will often pay ground rent. Ground rent leases tend to be long, with a hundred or even a thousand-year contract not unheard of, and the amount is small to negligible, almost always under a hundred pounds a year and often far less. However, if ground rent is paid on a number of properties, it can represent a small, but regular and reliable, source of income, for little effort.
