New commercial property to hit Brighton city regeneration

It has emerged that Brighton city centre could enjoy new commercial property under a major regeneration plan.

The proposals have been unveiled by Cathedral Group, which could help create 630 new jobs within the region. As part of the plans, the local market on Circus Street and general surrounding area will be fully transformed into two new public blocks, which can be used for commercial space. Planners hope that developing digital companies in the area will take advantage of this potential office space.

According to Insider Media, Cathedral Group chief executive Richard Upton said: "We will be putting the fight for the future of Brighton and Hove's thriving creative digital industry at the top of our list of priorities – our development will help provide the 'move on' space that these companies need to remain in the city."

Mr Upton added that he would want the Brighton and Hove region to be considered as a major hub for digital and creative industries within the UK.

It is hoped that 630 new jobs will be created through the regeneration scheme, whilst £208 million will be generated through commercial investment and economic activity over the next ten years.

This news comes after developer Centurion Group announced at the end of last year that it was working to fully regenerate The Lanes in Brighton, according to The Argus. Hopes are that there will be a new lane built between Meeting House Lane and Brighton Place, whilst Brighton Square will be fully refurbished with a small office unit, residential flats and a new hotel.

Cathedral Group heads a partnership that combines Brighton and Hove City Council, the University of Brighton and South East Dance, an organisation which raises awareness of dancing in the wider area.
