Top 5 new developments: A look at upcoming developments in the UK

With office demand rising in the last few months, and more companies than ever looking to maximise their reputation and appearance by getting into the most dazzling commercial spaces, it has become more important than ever that new offices are completed and opened on time.

And when it comes to new constructions, businesses are now looking for offices that meet their demands. Technological advances have increased the need for Grade A stock that has fast broadband connections, Wi-Fi availability and other features that allow for a smoother transition into practices of the future.

So what are the most exciting new office developments in the country?

20 Fenchurch Street, Central London

Also known as the Walkie-Talkie, 20 Fenchurch Street has become one of the most iconic and infamous new buildings in the London skyline.

Standing at 160 metres tall, the structure's unique shape has also earned it the nickname The Pint, but it is its reflective surface that has given it the most press since construction started.

The building's angle and top heavy design has meant that the sun is reflected onto the street below, and it has been blamed for melting a car and a number of bikes.

However, plans will be in place to sort out this flaw in time for March 2014, when the building is completed and becomes home to a number of different insurance companies who have agreed to rent offices there.

It will also house a viewing platform and a rooftop garden on its 34th storey.

122 Leadenhall Street, City of London

Almost as iconic and well known as the Walkie-Talkie is 122 Leadenhall Street, which has been given the affectionate moniker The Cheesegrater, thanks to its distinctive shape.

Standing at 225 metres tall, it will become one of London's tallest office blocks when it opens in the summer next year.

Despite the fact it is still a number of months from being finished, the building has already proven to be very popular, and its owners say it is already 51 per cent let, with insurance firms Aon and Amin ready to move in.

Richard Rogers, the man behind Lloyds of London, the Dome, and the Pompidou Centre in Paris, is the designer of the structure, which is also fitted with a glass lift that takes people to the top floors on the outside of the building, giving a stunning view of the city.

100 Bishopsgate, City of London

Earmarked originally for completion in 2014, but now on hold, 100 Bishopsgate will become one of the most diverse commercial spaces when it opens.

As well as the 900,000 sq ft of office space, the building in the financial district will also host restaurants and a range of different retail outlets, ringing a great deal of companies together in one place.

As well as its diversity, the 170 metre building will also be one of the greenest offices in the capital. It will feature a host of highly efficient office spaces, which will gain it a BREEAM Excellent award as well as LEED Gold status.

25 Churchill Place, Canary Wharf

The baby of the new breed at a height of just 130 metres, the 23-storey office block set to be completed at 25 Churchill Place really is one for the future.

As well as being located in one of the most lucrative areas of the city, it looks to become the greenest office space in Canary Wharf with a range of innovative features.

On top of the energy saving lights and the other more traditional modes of saving energy, the building will also be home to lifts that can store, recycle and re-use energy to minimise the electricity that the building eats up.

The 19 floors of Grade A office space will house some top companies upon completion, including both the European Medicines Agency and Ernst & Young.
