Final cut: TV and film properties on the market

walking dead

If you have a penchant for zombies and the eerie quiet of a still US town in Georgia, you may be interested in the latest lot being sold on eBay: part of the town from The Walking Dead.

At  a mere $680,000 (£443,570), you could bag yourself a large section of the city of Grantville, the setting of zombie hit TV series The Walking Dead. Sadly Andrew Lincoln doesn’t come with the package.

But what other TV and film properties have been valued or sold on the market?

Albury Park Mansion: Four Weddings and a Funeral

As the title suggests, there was more than one memorable location in Richard Curtis’ 1994 rom com. One of the most significant was the ‘Scottish wedding,’ at which main protagonist Charles (Hugh Grant) attends despite having fallen for bride Carrie (Andie MacDowell).

His best friend Fiona (Kristin Scott Thomas) also admits to being in love with him and friend Gareth (Simon Callow) dies of a heart attack, leading on to the ‘funeral’ later on in the film.

Despite being known as ‘the Scottish wedding,’ the property is actually set in Surrey and known as ‘Albury Park Mansion.’ The striking gothic Tudor property and 17th century Grade I listed gardens were previously available for weddings, however have recently been converted into 12 luxury flats now on sale.

NEO Bankside apartments: Silent Witness, The Hunted, and more

Awe-inspiring film and TV properties needn’t be period relics – which is certainly the case of NEO Bankside apartments on London’s South Bank.

Home to breath-taking views of the river and the electric London skyline at night, the apartments have been the settings of crime drama Silent Witness suspense and thriller series The Hunted. The cold beauty of the stunning blue-hued backdrop makes it the perfect scene for crime… fiction.

These properties don’t come cheap, with prices from a cool £4.3 million.

12 Picket Close: Harry Potter

The most famous Harry Potter property may be Hogwarts, however there’s another which is perhaps slightly overlooked: 4 Privet Drive.

In comparison to the others on the list the terraced house, 12 Picket Post Close in Berkshire, may appear rather non-descript and ordinary. Yet the Dursley’s home is a piece of fictional magic that will be unlikely to be forgotten for generations to come.

12 Picket Post Close was used for the first and fifth films but not the second, in which they built an actual Privet Drive in Leavesden Studios. The property was up for auction in 2003, where it failed to sell at the reserve price of £250,000.

671 Lincoln Avenue: Home Alone

Perhaps considered one of the most famous houses in children’s film, a mansion on Chicago’s North Shore played a feature role in Macaulay Culkin’s Home Alone. Fondly remembered as the place Kevin (Culkin) used as his pranking playground against the two hopeless burglars, the 1920s mansion is located in Winnetka, a Chicago suburb.

Spread over 4,240 square foot and three stories, the Georgian house is surrounded by tall oak trees and sculptured hedges

The owners sought to sell the property in 2011 for $2.4 million (£1.57 million), but sold it in 2012 for $1.58 million (£1.03 million).

Highclere Castle: Downton Abbey

The iconic backdrop and setting of the wildly successful Downton Abbey series is Jacobethan-style Highclere Castle in Hampshire. Home to 5,000 acres, the Grade I listed stately home is the main filming location for the TV period drama.

During the 19th century Sir Charles Barry, after having completed the Houses of Parliament, designed the rebuilding of the castle. Much of the redesigns were inspired by Tudor architecture of the early 16th and late 17th century with the addition of Renaissance-style motifs.

Owned by the aristocratic family of Lord and Lady Carnavon, the 50-60 bedroom property may not be on the market just yet, however the value has been estimated at an extravagant $400 million by Motovo.com.
