The BBC’s '70s drama remake appears to be setting hearts a-pounding across the country – but not only due to Aidan Turner’s devilish good looks. With interest from holidaymakers stirring at Poldark’s rugged Cornish scenery, summer lets as well as property prices are set to soar.
Cornwall is already considered a top location for ‘staycations,’ and travellers from around the globe will also flock to the places where their favourite programmes are set.
Some of the UK's most popular TV and film 'pilgrimage' spots can bring in over £1 million in tourist trade in a year. Think Downton, Brideshead Revisited and anything to do with Jane Austen.
As well as boosting the hotel and B&B markets, Poldark's filming locations are likely to attract extra attention from interested house buyers and increase property prices in previously lesser-known areas.
‘Just like Doc Martin before it, Poldark will give viewers a reminder of how beautiful Cornwall is,’ Christopher Bailey, of Knight Frank estate agents in Exeter told This is Money. ‘We are looking forward to a busy summer.’
Creative England supplied the 18th century period drama production team with 13 properties in the area and liaised with owners ‘to arrange site reconnaissance.’
Key Poldark locations include: Charlestown, Bodmin Moor, Padstow, Botallak to Levant and Truro.
